How To Use Massage As A Meditation

How wonderful is that sensation once you get up from a massage table? Your whole body feels relaxed. The tiredness and stiffness that was trapped in your body an hour ago is now only a vague memory. You are overwhelmed with the utmost calmness and peace right now. You think to yourself, I really needed that. And you are so right.

So often these days, we overwork our bodies. We have poor diets, reckless sleeping patterns, not merely enough time to pamper ourselves, and then we go and push our already depleted bodies to the very known limit of exhaustion.

Today my question to you is so simple. What is your body telling you? Once you become quiet, what do you feel? What are you aware of? You are aware of the pain in your neck, and it hurts. Tomorrow you will phone your favourite massage therapist and have him/her knead away all your aches and pains. You will have one hour of bliss and relaxation before you will return to your hectic schedule.

My challenge to you is the following: when you have that massage, listen to your body. As a massage therapist myself, I find that some of my clients will occasionally tell me that they thought the problem was in area A, but once I started massaging them, they could feel that the problem is actually in area C, D, or E. For some, the quick fix of a massage is enough to last them until next week. My advice will be to feel. Use this massage as meditation. As the music is softly playing in the background, become still in your mind and start to feel. Concentrate on what the therapist is doing. Feel that muscle. What is that muscle related to? How many of these aches and pains are self-inflicted? Perhaps not on purpose, oh no, but surely enough because of neglect and unknowingly draining the very last that your body has to offer.

When you start listening to your body, by feeling what it is telling you, you will soon be able to improve your own physical wellbeing. By having a better posture you start seeing an improvement in certain areas. Then, it is very important to have some “Me-Time”. Even for just five minutes per day. Go sit outside. Sit barefoot on the grass. Feel the grass beneath your feet. Ground yourself. Listen to nature. Relax in a hot bath. Feel the tension of the day as it leaves your body. And be thankful. Be thankful that you can give yourself this time. Be thankful for all the blessings in your life. And when you start your day in the morning, protect your energy with a bubble of white light, positive energy and love. You will be surprised by the difference that you will feel in your body.

Next time when you are on that massage table, take a good and long listen to what your body is telling you. Perhaps you will find that a trip to your massage therapist can be even more relaxing and rewarding once you start doing this.

Sending you love and light.
